Local 500 is proud to support the 25th Annual Pride Festival - May 25 - June 3.

Pride Winnipeg has been celebrated annually since 1987, and has evolved from a one-day event into a 10-day festival filled with pride, confidence, fun, colour, music, laughter, optimism, and activism. This year, Local 500 is helping to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the festival through an advertisement in the Pride Guide, Manitoba’s largest publication targeted to the LGBTTQ community.

Local 500 Social and Sports Committee meeting - June 4, 2012

The next meeting of the Local 500 Social and Sports Committee will take place on Monday, June 4 - 5:30 pm, CUPE Boardroom, 7th Floor, Union Centre, 275 Broadway. This committee plans and organizes the social and sporting activities/events for the Local. New members are always welcome. Holding firm and pushing back: CUPE Manitoba convention adopts bold action plan for moving forward

Delegates to the convention strongly adopted a policy paper that will see the union focus on five key strategic priorities with corresponding recommendations for action. Delegates also debated a number of resolutions and participated in some good discussions about violence against women, pension issues and contracting out and privatization.

MayWorks Festival: April 27 - June 2, 2012

MayWorks is a multi-disciplinary festival that focuses on the relationship between working class issues and their artistic expression in song, poetry, photography, dance, drama or art.


The theme for MayWorks 2012 is “Change the World” inspired by the many examples of art – historical and contemporary – that has been produced in response to social movements, the working class experience and the struggle for social change.

THE LES BUTTERWORTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND is inviting applications for its scholarship and bursary awards.
