2011/2012 scholarship and bursaries awarded
The Les Butterworth Scholarship Fund awards sponsored by Local 500 were presented to the award winners at a dinner held on September 15, 2011. One scholarship of $1,250 and three bursaries of $750 were awarded.
The scholarship, which is awarded on the basis of academic achievement, went to Adam Reisacher. Adam is enrolled in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba. His partner Lorraine is a Local 500 member in the Community Services Department.
The bursaries were awarded for high marks and financial need. The winners
were:
Kevin Bairos-Novak is enrolled in the Faculty of Science
at the University of Manitoba. He is a Local 500 member in the Water and
Waste Department.
Courtney Brecht is taking Creative Communications at
Red River Community College. She is a Local 500 member in the Assessment
and Taxation Department.
Meaghan Welby is enrolled in University 1 at the University
of Manitoba. She is a Local 500 member in the Water and Waste Department.

2011 Scholarship and bursaries available for Local 500 members and their families – apply today! Deadline is June 30th.
THE LES BUTTERWORTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND is inviting applications for its
scholarship and bursary awards.
This year the fund is offering one scholarship of $1,250 and three bursaries
of $750 each.
The Les Butterworth Scholarship and Bursary Fund is open to members in good standing of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 and their families. Family is defined as: spouse, children, grandchildren, brother, sister, son-in-law and daughter-in-law. Also eligible are families of disabled, retired or deceased members who were members in good standing at the time of their disability, retirement or death.
Note: Previous award winners are not eligible but previous applicants may re-apply.

About the Les Butterworth Scholarship Fund
Awarded annually to CUPE Local 500 members and their families.
The Les Butterworth Scholarship program, sponsored by CUPE Local 500, helps union members and their families defray the cost of higher education.
The Scholarship fund was established in memory of Les Butterworth, a past education representative for CUPE. Les dedicated his life to making this a better world for working people.
Method of selection
A selection committee of three prominent Winnipeg citizens will review the applications and other information provided. They may conduct interviews to determine the award winners if they choose. The Board of Directors of the Les Butterworth Scholarship Fund Inc. has no choice in the selection of the winners and no member of the Selection Committee can be a member of CUPE Local 500. The decision of the Selection Committee is final.

Steven Honcharik - Scholarship
Steven is enrolled in the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba.
He is a City of Winnipeg employee and works in the Community Services
Department - Aquatics Branch.
Jemma Palson - Bursary
Jemma is enrolled in the Pre-Med program at the University of Winnipeg.
Her father Daniel works in the Public Works Department of the City of
Winnipeg.
Trista Webb - Bursary
Trista is enrolled in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba.
Her brother Reece works in the Public Works Department.

Rose Kennedy
Rose Kennedy - Bursary
Rose is enrolled in the Recreation Facilitator Course at Red River Community
College. She is a Local 500 member working at Riverview Health Centre.

Kimberly is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts, Department of Psychology
at the University of Manitoba. Kimberly is a Local 500 member in the Aquatics

Mark is enrolled in the Faculty of Education at the University
of Winnipeg. Mark is a Local 500 member working in the Community Services
Department.
Bronwyn Jerrett-Enns - Bursary
Bronwyn is enrolled in the English Department at the University
of
Winnipeg.
