Winnipeg City Council approves collective agreement

At a special meeting of City Council held on April 8, the memorandum of agreement between CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg was adopted.

Now that the memorandum of agreement has been approved, we will begin the process of incorporating all changes into the new agreement and commence printing of the new booklet. All Local 500 members working at the City of Winnipeg will receive a copy of the new collective agreement.

Once again, on behalf of our Local, thank you for your support during this round of bargaining.

Winnipeg City Council to vote on tentative agreement

A special meeting of Winnipeg's council has been called for Friday to consider the tentative deal reached between the city and CUPE Local 500. On March 25, CUPE Local 500 members pproved the tentative agreement between the City of Winnipeg and CUPE Local 500. Acceptance was 85%.

Highlights of the Agreement

Term of the Agreement:

Four years: January 1, 2011 – December 27, 2014 (the end of Pay Period #26, 2014)

Wages:

Effective Pay Period #1, 2012 – 1.00%
Effective Pay Period #1, 2013 – 2.50%
Effective Pay Period #1, 2014 – 2.50%

Other:

Job Security – “Status quo during the life of agreement ”

Benefits:

Effective PP#1 – 2012

• $0.05 increase to Shift Premium
• Vision Care – increase to $300 for full-time; $150 for part-time;
• Tool Allowance – increase by 5.0%
• Customer Service Representative I & II – add “Step 6”

Effective PP#1 – 2014

• An additional $950,000 for other benefits and/or special adjustments as agreed to by the parties.

Other

- Increase to pension plan contributions from both sides

- Funding for Education and Training
