Local 500 discontinues Death Benefit

On January 23, 2012, Local 500 Central Council approved a motion to discontinue the Death Benefit currently administered by the Local.

Established in June, 1973, the Local 500 Death Benefit provided up to $500 to the families of active members upon their death. Under the program, no Death Benefit was paid on behalf of any member who was retired at the time of death.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefits of $3,500 is provided for members and retired members

Local 500 members and retired members are currently eligible to receive the NO COST accidental death and dismemberment benefit from American Income Life (AIL). This supplemental insurance available to Local 500 members, was recently increased from $3,000 to $3,500 by AIL.
