Employee transition update - Assiniboine Park Conservancy

The Joint Union/City/Conservancy Management Committee finalized the Employee Transition Agreement (ETA) which outlines the conditions and terms of the transfer of employees of the Community Services Department to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy planned for October 1. A separate process for the transfer of staff and operations from the Parks and Open Space Division planned for January 1, 2012, will occur in 2011. » Read more

CUPE’s Respect Campaign is honoured to support Steve Braun’s Walk for the Shelters as he walks from Winkler to Winnipeg to raise money for two women’s shelters, drawing attention to the fact that women’s shelters across Manitoba lack the funding necessary to provide adequate services to victims of domestic violence. » Read more

A bargaining survey was mailed directly to the homes of Local 500 members working at the City of Winnipeg. The information you provide on this survey will be a tremendous help to us during upcoming contract negotiations.

All we ask is that you take a few minutes to complete the survey so that we know what issues are important to you. Responses are due by June 11 and can be returned in the self-addressed, stamped envelope or by fax at (204)956-1439.

Local 500/Winnipeg Police Association radio ad promotes public safety

Local 500 together with the Winnipeg Police Association are airing a radio ad to promote public safety. The ad will run for four weeks up until June 25 on CJOB.

"Our members bring safety to the public through the services they provide every day," said Local 500 President Mike Davidson. "Safe drinking water, safe public parks and recreational opportunities in safe public facilities are all vital to keeping our community safe and healthy."

The Winnipeg Civic Employees’ Benefits Program - Transfer of Funds within the Program

As you will recall, contributions to the pension plan were increased effective January 1, 2010 in accordance with the terms of the Trust Agreement. This same Trust Agreement defines how money contributed to the plan is used. The purpose of the contribution increase was to protect existing benefits. In order to do this, the Plan needs to transfer these funds from the Future Contribution Account to the Main Account. » Read more

Local 500 radio ad promotes public services

Local 500 is airing more radio ads to promote the value of public services. As part of our Positively Public campaign, Local 500 will be launching radio, print and another series of billboard ads plus bus shelter ads beginning the week of May 17.

"We want to remind all Winnipeggers that public services are delivered by their neighbours, friends, and family members," said Local 500 President Mike Davidson. "Public services are vital to building a strong and healthy community and our members are proud of the work they do for the citizens of Winnipeg."
