300 Movie Extras Needed for Strike!

August 08, 2018 at 7:23 AM

The 100th year anniversary of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike will be marked by several events including the world premier of the movie Strike!

As part of the filming for this major motion picture, Danny Shur, composer/producer of the musical Strike! is looking for 300 volunteer extras on August 23 to simulate the crowds of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike.

Background:

It came to be known as "Bloody Saturday" - June 21st, 1919 - the violent culmination of the Winnipeg General Strike. The six-week-long conflict saw thousands gather in the streets and parks of the city. And now, Danny Schur's movie musical "Strike!" seeks to re-create Bloody Saturday's crowds on Thursday, August 23rd.

Says Schur, "We seek three hundred ultra-committed volunteer extras, the minimum number for simulating big crowds. Our schedule dictates that we shoot on a Thursday, which is not ideal from a workday perspective.  However, we hope that there are enough committed volunteers that are on holiday or willing to take a day off, to honour the legacy of 1919. It will be a demanding 12-hour day but also a very rewarding way to honour one of our city's defining stories."

Volunteer extras will self-costume 1919 style.

Pre-registration is mandatory. Interested individuals should e-mail strikeextras@gmail.com.
