April 12-18 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

April 14, 2020 at 6:36 PM

Each year, the second full week of April is dedicated to those who serve as public safety telecommunicators. These are the people who take your phone calls when you call 9-1-1 to ensure proper emergency resources are deployed.

"Local 500 members who work for the City of Winnipeg as emergency communication operators, are essential to public safety," said Local 500 President, Gord Delbridge.  "I'm pleased to see that their contributions and commitment to public safety are being recognized and I commend our members for their dedicated efforts day in and day out."

The City of Winnipeg has two emergency communications call centres. One centre is used by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) and the other is used by Winnipeg Police Service (WPS). CUPE 500 represents members working at the WFPS call centre.
