Bargaining Update #12 - CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg

December 06, 2021 at 4:39 PM

Negotiations between the CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg continued on November 30, December 1 and 2.

The two parties have made progress on the non-monetary items and we are pleased to report that discussions will now turn towards monetary proposals.

Further meetings are scheduled for January 19, 20, 25-27, February 8-10, 15-17 and 22-23, 2022. Additional bargaining dates have also been blocked off in March and April.

Why isn’t more information available?

Members have been asking why we don’t provide more detailed information in our bargaining updates. At the start of bargaining, both parties agreed that the content of negotiations would be held in confidence until we reach a settlement or an impasse. Collective bargaining is a sensitive process and when dialogue occurs away from the bargaining table it can jeopardize the success of negotiations.

We ask that all members respect this by not asking your bargaining committee members for specific details about negotiations. As always, we will advise you when a tentative agreement has been achieved or the two parties have reached an impasse. A full report from your bargaining committee will be provided at that time.

Our main goal remains to reach a fair and reasonable collective agreement that meets the priorities of our members.

Your bargaining committee will keep you informed as progress is made. Members should continue to check for email updates, the bulletin boards or visit the Local 500 website at cupe500.mb.ca

You can also reach out to us if you have any questions about bargaining or the bargaining process. We can be contacted at union@cupe500.mb.ca or 204-942-1001.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

In solidarity,
