Bargaining Update #13 - CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg

January 31, 2022 at 1:30 PM

CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg continued bargaining on January 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27.

During this time, discussions were held to review the agreed to items and clarify outstanding issues. There was some progress made to finalize a number of outstanding items through dialogue and the exchange of additional counter proposals.

Other topics of discussion included supplementary agreements. These agreements govern special terms and working conditions that are supplementary to the main agreement and are unique to classifications and occupations within a specific department. Examples of items contained in supplementary agreements include lines of progression, hours of work, spare lists and other matters mutually agreed upon. Just like the main collective agreement, members will vote on a departmental supplementary agreement.

Our next bargaining dates to continue with negotiations on your behalf, are scheduled for February 8, 9, 15-17, 22-23. We also have more dates booked in March and April.

As we continue to move toward our monetary discussions, we will keep you informed on any new developments.

Throughout the bargaining process, we ask the membership to respect the bargaining committee and understand that they are dealing with a confidential process until a tentative agreement is reached. We would also ask all members not to listen to rumours that may come up during the bargaining process. Please reach out to a member of the bargaining committee or the Local 500 office for additional information or with questions. We can be contacted at union@cupe500.mb.ca or 204-942-1001.

As always, we appreciate your patience and ongoing support as we work towards an agreement that meets the priorities of our members. Members should continue to check for email updates, the bulletin boards or visit the Local 500 website at cupe500.mb.ca.

In solidarity,
