Bulletin #5 - CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg Bargaining Update

May 11, 2021 at 7:23 AM

CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg continued contract negotiations on May 5 and 6.

The parties have continued to exchange counter proposals on non-monetary items. We have tentatively agreed to some changes to articles, while other items require further discussions.

Collective bargaining is a give and take process of proposals and counter-proposals, offers and counter-offers. It is a process that in the end, both parties reach a settlement that is mutually acceptable. The Union's membership is the ultimate authority that ratifies the settlement on behalf of the Union.

Your bargaining committee will continue to keep you informed as progress is made. The two sides are scheduled to meet virtually again on May 11, 12, 26, and 27.

Rumours

It’s important to avoid listening to rumours during bargaining. If you have a concern or questions, please contact the Local 500 office directly.

Watch for more information

Members should continue to check the bulletin boards and visit the Local 500 website at www.cupe500.mb.ca. You can also sign up for email updates to stay informed.

As a reminder, because of the sensitive nature of negotiations, the bargaining committee is not able to give you a step-by-step explanation of everything that is discussed during the bargaining process. However, should we reach a settlement or impasse, members will be fully informed.

Thank you for your continued support.
