COVID-19 - MEMBER UPDATE #9

April 27, 2020 at 3:33 PM

Since our last update, the Local continues to maintain dialogue with your employers to keep your concerns front and center. We also continue to have regular phone meetings and discussions with our staff and executive to stay updated on any developments that may impact our members.

Please be assured that we are also working to fend off any additional layoffs at the City. At this time, the City is recalling many of you for seasonal work. We need to make sure that the vital public services Winnipeggers rely on continue to be delivered. While we don't foresee any further layoffs, we will keep you updated should further discussions take place in this regard.

We will also continue to press for all employers to provide a safe work environment for our members and support for those who need to take time off to deal with health challenges or family responsibilities. If you require more information about your specific situation at work, please start by speaking with your supervisor and accessing information about your workplace. If you have concerns or additional questions, please check with your Unit President or shop steward.

Our Local also continues to receive excellent health and safety resource materials from the CUPE National office. Please take a moment to review the following:

Throughout this crisis, Local 500 members continue to do important work on the front-lines and behind the scenes to help keep our city up and running.  Last week, we began airing a new radio ad to highlight the vital role our members play in our community each and every day.  We are grateful for your dedication and commitment, and we thank you for all you do!
