COVID-19 UPDATE #5 - WORK FROM HOME - CITY OF WINNIPEG EMPLOYEES

March 19, 2020 at 10:59 AM

Firstly, Local 500 would like to thank our members for your continued dedication and commitment in helping to keep our city services operational for the citizens of Winnipeg.

Both the City and CUPE 500 remain committed to working together through the COVID-19 situation that is changing minute by minute.

As part of the containment measures, both the City and CUPE agree that the prevention or limitation of harm or damage to the safety, health and welfare of employees and citizens requires the immediate implementation of extraordinary and temporary measures.

Therefore, CUPE 500 and the City have agreed (on a without prejudice or precedent basis), to send home some or all CUPE bargaining unit employees whose positions will allow them to work from home. The city will be determining and notifying all employees that fall into this category.

“The health and safety of our members is paramount, and we need to do everything possible to stop the potential spread of the virus,” said Local 500 President Gord Delbridge. “By implementing measures such as working from home where possible, will help limit the presence of having many employees in our workplaces.  We are also working with the city to mitigate the risks for those employees not able to work from home.”

The City will notify employees and the Union of the return to work date at City workplace locations once that has been determined.
