Local 500is sad to announce the passing of Honorary Life Member, Brother Jack Rodie, after a short illness on June 30, 2020.

Brother Rodie was a longstanding leader of our union. He was hired by the Greater Winnipeg Water District in 1948. This became part of the City’s Waterworks, Waste & Disposal Department after Unicity.

Brother Rodie was an activist during the formation of CUPE in 1963. He was elected as President of CUPE Manitoba in 1965,
serving until 1981. He remains the longest serving Division President in our province’s history.

He served on CUPE’s National Executive Board for over a decade and was a long-time member of the Manitoba Federation of Labour Executive Council.

After Jack’s retirement, CUPE Manitoba created the Jack Rodie Award which is presented at each annual CUPE Manitoba Convention to a rank and file member who has displayed long-standing commitment to the union movement.

Local 500 extends our deepest sympathy to the members of the Rodie family.
