CUPE 500/City of Winnipeg Bargaining Update #17

May 24, 2022 at 10:49 AM

Contract negotiations between CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg continued on May 17 with a focus on monetary items.

Since the start of negotiations, your bargaining committee’s objective has been to achieve a new collective agreement that includes a reasonable wage increase.  We have taken this message to the employer in hopes they would table a meaningful wage offer that we could bring to our members. Unfortunately, the employer’s financial offer has not come anywhere close to meeting your needs.

Your bargaining committee will continue to push to get the best possible deal that is both reasonable and respectful to you, the members.

Both parties are scheduled to meet again on Monday, May 30.  We will update you on any progress we make, or if there are any significant developments to report.

Strike preparations underway

At this time, the Local is undertaking strike preparations. We want to assure you that this is a normal part of bargaining. While the Local has a good track record of achieving results, it can never be guaranteed that job action will not be needed. It is important that we hope for the best but plan for the worst.  In view of this, you may want to be prudent in your spending just in case.

Again, strike preparations are a normal part of contract negotiations.  We remain optimistic that we can achieve an agreement without having to resort to job action.

Rumours

We want to again remind you to not listen to rumours. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the office directly at 204-942-1001 or by email: union@cupe500.mb.ca.
