Re: Automated garbage pickup.

For the last couple of weeks, we have heard much controversy over residential garbage and recycling pickup in our city. This past week, it was reported that garbage containers were not picked up for some time and garbage was visibly scattered all around a back lane in Winnipeg. Residents are now very vocal that they are unhappy with the service they are receiving.

For many years our civic work force provided a dependable and quality public service to the citizens of Winnipeg. In fact, more than once the civic work force has been called into action to pickup residential garbage when the vendor was unable to do so. Our members for decades were able to set the bar for cost effective, reliable garbage pickup service for the citizens. Perhaps what we have here is a case of “be careful what you wish for.”
