CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg - Bargaining Update #28

September 16, 2022 at 9:47 PM

CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg continued conciliation talks on September 15 and into the evening on September 16, 2022.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, minimal movement was made by the employer.

We realize our members are extremely frustrated, as is your Bargaining Committee with the lack of progress made to conclude this round of negotiations. Our goal remains to get you the best agreement possible that values the work you do and services you provide to the citizens of Winnipeg.

Taking strike action is always a last resort, but it appears we are headed in that direction. While we don’t have a strike deadline set, we are continuing our strike preparations in the event that job action cannot be avoided.

As you know our strike headquarters was officially opened on September 12. Our next step will be for members to register for picket duty. We have locations secured for sign-up and will be announcing more detailed information on Monday.

We regret having to deliver this announcement to you, as we believe a fair settlement is achievable. We know this has been a stressful time and we appreciate your continued support and solidarity.
