MARCH 8TH IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (IWD) - For women and for our union, not one step back

March 06, 2019 at 7:09 PM

International Women's Day is celebrated around the world on March 8.

Across the country and in Manitoba, CUPE members will be participating in community events to honour the accomplishments of women, to reaffirm our commitment to gender equality. This day also marks a call to action to end gender based violence in our community and in the workplace.

It is also an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and groups who have struggled to create a society that promotes diversity, tolerance, safety, social justice and equality across our province.

Take Action:  Not one step back

On the heels of a global mobilization for women's rights, CUPE has joined a campaign by the Feminist Alliance for International Action (FAFIA) along with over 100 organizations, calling on the federal government to develop and implement a National Gender Equality Plan. CUPE encourages members to write their MP, tell friends about the campaign and join on social media, using #StepUp4WomenCA.

Again this year, CUPE members and women around the world have a very clear message: "Not One Step Back."  And we commit to regaining ground on justice for all women.

CUPE's poster for IWD features the militancy and leadership of marginalized women. The poster shows women from different communities united and advancing together in the fight for gender justice.

CUPE 500 joins with CUPE Manitoba, CUPE National, and the Canadian labour movement in wishing you a happy, strong, and meaningful International Women's Day!
