Privatize this! Panel discusses privatization and deregulation of public services

May 22, 2009 at 2:02 AM

A well-attended public forum to discuss the threats of privatization and deregulation of public services was held on May 21 at the Millennium Library. The panel discussion was hosted by the Industrial Workers of the World (Winnipeg) and the Winnipeg New Socialist Group.

The panelists included CUPE Local 500 President Mike Davidson who spoke about the concerns with the City’s plans to explore a new ‘municipal corporate utility’ and the procurement of a ‘strategic partner’ to expand two water treatment plants for the city. Other panelists included Monique Woroniak, a City of Winnipeg Library worker and Mark Roy, a letter carrier with Canada Post.
