SPECIAL WAGE ADJUSTMENTS

The City of Winnipeg and CUPE 500 have reached a tentative deal regarding SWA #1. The City will notify each individual in the listed classifications as to the rate increase and when the retroactive pay should be expected.

SWA #1 of $400,000 is a result of a settlement through mediation based on a grievance the Union filed against the employer. The Union proposed that the settlement be returned to the members listed in the named classifications in the form of a wage increase that includes the following classifications:

Concrete finisher

Foreman series

Some trades classifications

Wastewater treatment operators

Though the Union had made requests to have this amount increased, the City would not agree to it. The Union however, was able to negotiate the SWA #2.

Discussions have begun on SWA #2. The Union has requested information from the employer so we can put pen to paper and hopefully come to an agreement as quickly as possible.

Just a reminder that these are both retroactive. SWA #1 is retroactive to January 2023 and SWA #2 is retroactive to January 2024.

As always, we will keep the members informed as talks progress.
