Winnipeg – Gord Delbridge, President of CUPE Local 500, extends his congratulations to the Winnipeg Labour Council for their first round of municipal and school board election endorsements.

The Winnipeg Labour Council has endorsed Sherri Rollins in the Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry Ward to take over from long time Labour Council ally Jenny Gerbasi.

“Jenny was a long time friend and ally for working people and progressive forces,” said Delbridge. “We know that Sherri holds those same progressive values.”

Sherri Rollins, current Chair of the Winnipeg School Division Board of Trustees, has been working hard for Winnipeg families and fighting against the Pallister education cuts.

“We know we can trust Sherri to advocate for progressive issues at City Council, because she has done it as chair of the Winnipeg School Division,” said Delbridge. “Sherri has a record we can all be proud of promoting at the doorstep, and I look forward to doing just that this fall.”

The Winnipeg Labour Council also endorsed Brian Mayes and Ross Eadie for their respective re-election campaigns.

“Brian and Ross have been there when working Winnipegger’s needed them,” said Delbridge. “We are very pleased to see the Winnipeg Labour Council endorsing the re-election of these two councillors.”

The Winnipeg Labour Council also endorsed Arlene Reid for the Winnipeg School Division Ward 7, Brianne Goertzen River East-Transcona School Division Ward 3, and Greg McFarlane Seven Oaks School Division Ward 2.

“These School Board Trustees have helped families right across Winnipeg by advocating for quality public education,” said Delbridge.  “We look forward to their continued good work.”

The Winnipeg Labour Council still has many endorsements to work through its Political Action committee for both School Board and City Council, and the above list is not a final list of endorsements.

CUPE Local 500 represents about 4,600 members working at the City of Winnipeg.
