311 Contact Centre taking over utility payment services

September 13, 2013 at 1:43 PM

The City has announced that effective Monday, September 16, 2013, the 311 Contact Centre will be taking over operations of the Customer Service Counter at 510 Main Street.  The City says that while this proposal was put forward as a cost reduction measure, the new staffing arrangement is being implemented with a view to expanding the services provided at the counter.  Once the city had made a decision to implement this change, they contacted the Union to discuss staffing implications.

This change in service delivery, will result in the redeployment of three Local 500 members from the water and waste department, who previously worked at the counter accepting utility payments.

"We want to make sure the collective agreement is adhered to and these members are looked after in accordance with the Redeployment Letter of Understanding," said Local 500 President, Mike Davidson.  "We know that our members at the 311 contact centre provide efficient and quality services, and will continue to do so under this new proposal," he said.  "Our main job is to make sure the rights of our members are protected throughout this process."

The Local will continue to update the membership as more information becomes available.
