Councillor Lillian Thomas honoured at farewell reception

CUPE Local 500 President Mike Davidson presents plaque to Councillor Lillian Thomas

CUPE Local 500 held a farewell reception last Friday night in honour of Councillor Lillian Thomas who is retiring after serving 21 years on City Council.

About 70 guests attended the reception held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre to recognize and pay tribute to her many outstanding contributions to the labour movement and public services.

Words of praise were spoken by the Honourable Bill Blaikie and CUPE National President Paul Moist. Mike Davidson, President of Local 500, presented Councillor Thomas with a plaque on behalf of the Local.

Councillor Thomas has served on council continuously since 1989, initially for Elmwood and later for its successor ward of Elmwood-East Kildonan.
