Public Works teams earn bragging rights at fire engine pull for charity

October 07, 2011 at 9:40 PM

Two Public Works teams hold the bragging rights from this year's fire engine pull held on October 3rd at City Hall. The Public Works "Go Getters" placed first with the best time (even though they had to compete twice), and the “Green Team” from the Parks and Open Space Division, won for the best cheer.

"The Go Getters time was so fast that the other teams thought it was a mistake,” said Christie Bachynski, a Public Works employee who helps organize the event. "They had to re-do the pull but in the end, they still had the fastest time," she said.

The event was held to kick-off the 2011 campaign in support of the Employees' Retirees' Charitable Fund (ERCF) and the United Way. Last year, the ERCF raised $460,000 for charities including United Way of Winnipeg.

The fire engines used in the event weigh approximately 42,000 pounds each.
