CUPE Local 500 > News/Media > News Archive > Update on Unpaid Leave for City Employees - 2014

Since we last communicated to you on the above, the Union has been informed that the employer is starting to schedule the closure of select city operations and services, in anticipation of the mandatory 3.5 days of unpaid leave for city staff between Christmas Day of 2014 and New Year's Day.

Please be advised, that the Local has written to the city administration requesting confirmation that such planning is being undertaken, and are awaiting a response.

As we said in our last update, the Local has NOT agreed to any unpaid days off. This action by the city is unprecedented and CUPE is pursuing this matter with our legal counsel.

In the coming weeks, the Local will be continuing with its public relations campaign to inform Winnipeggers about the impacts these service reductions will have on the programs and services they value and depend on.

The Local will continue to monitor this important issue and will update the membership as more information becomes available.
